After the Quilt Retreat

Lots of time to sew, sketch, walk and chat with friends.

I just returned from four wonderful days of sewing and visiting with friends, old and new, at The Bishop’s Ranch, in Healdsburg, CA.  When I go to these retreats I take along a list of goals and projects that I would like to complete but will admit I usually have more on than list than is realistically possible.  I did complete the two projects above.  The Valentine quilt is a tiny one,

8 1/2” x 11” completed for a current on line art quilting class with Jane La Fazio.  There is a lot of hand stitching on it which I found relaxing and enjoyable to do while chatting with friends.  The other quilt is an “Eye Spy” with every square having a different image on it.  This type of quilt is tons of fun for young children as they love to find the pumpkin or flamingo or crescent moon, marbles, ants strawberries etc.  I shall be gifting this soon.

The weather was spectacular everyday which allowed for walks to watch for hawks and visit the friendly cows.  I tried sketching the cows which was challenging because even though it looks as if they mostly stand still, they do move around quite a bit.  I feed some of them grass and discovered they have very rough tongues.  Now I’m home planning for my next adventure coming up in a few weeks.
